Background on Shared spaces
The concept of Shared Spaces for Learning was born from a collaboration (funny enough) Dr. T.J. Kopcha, Lenie George, and Bill Frame. We were observing an iPad teacher training in Walton County and one of the apps they were using was called SyncSpace. Watching how the instructors and teachers were using the app, crystallized how mobile technology and collaboration could be used to provide teachers with a way to expand the bounds of their classroom. By using a electronic Shared Space, teachers and students could work together from anywhere and access that work from anywhere. With Bring Your Own Technology (BYOT) and/or 1-to-1 initiatives coming quickly to every school, we know that teachers are having problems finding good resources on how to teach in this new environment.
iWhisper Design group includes Bill Frame, Sarah Ashton, Sumitha Melathe, Jessica Hardy, and Racheal Landers. We were originally designing a very large project that centered around the 4 Cs of 21st Century Skills. After our realization on Shared Space, we focused on creating a set of resources around collaboration and mobile technology and here you have it.
